Clay bone on velvet pillow, inspired by Kafka's Metamorphosis.

Kafka’s Metamorphosis reflects on the mundane reality of isolation and alienation within society. The book's protagonist, Gregor, faces ultimate disposition after he transforms into a giant insect. Turning into an insect forces Gregor to experience a contrast of interactions with other humans, eventually being seen as nothing more than a bug.

This piece is based upon the story of Kafka's Metamorphosis. Showing a humerus that has adapted, in time, to resemble an insect.

Suspension: Up to 1m drop from ceiling, 4 connections.

Apple released their first touch screen phone in 2007, and the world became mobile obsessed. Digital artworks became more accessible, in tow influential, and the phenomenon of social media has impacted society in some ways.

This piece is an example of what life could be like in the future, post the technological revolution.

Since the first iPhone was released, 120 animal species have gone extinct, according to the IUCN Red List.

Which got me googling more things…

The Royal Entomology Society says:

"There are over one million species of insects that have been discovered and described but it is estimated that there may be as many as 10 million species on earth."

Suggesting to me that the future could be full of insects... ✨️

Here is a clip from a short narrative that I produced to accompany 'I Dropped My Phone (I.D.M.P).

This dialogue is based upon future dystopia, relating to the topics of AI and preservation in the digital age.

Generated with AI, these images were produced to symbolise our past associations with fossils,
with similar reference to pop culture science fiction’s such as Jurassic Park. These images reflect the current scientific understanding of the potential impacts of global warming and plastic use on the preservation of organic materials. It's crucial to acknowledge the interconnectedness of environmental changes and their consequences on cultural heritage, scientific research, and natural ecosystems. Addressing these challenges requires interdisciplinary efforts, innovative solutions, and global cooperation to ensure the sustainable preservation of our shared heritage and resources.

I recently read about the discovery of woodland remains and some insects that were found preserved, in the peat bog at Dartmoor, which is a rare find. These remains date back to the Neolithic and Bronze ages, a feat for organic materials.

This ‘time capsule’ got me thinking about our current history - how will the digital ages be preserved for future historians to find?

I used primitive AI to generate these images as an example of how information could be processed in the future, without the physical production of this ‘artwork’ it represents the totality of itself. As it is, these images may never be preserved in 3D...
